South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Reese Kimmi. Reese is the daughter of Rachel and Dalton Johnson and Steven Kimmi. At South High, she has been orchestra section leader for two years, a drama club officer, a member of forensics, the writing center, Link Crew, and National Honor Society. She enjoys all of the opportunities that the school provides to help students succeed. Outside of school, she is a member of Bethany College orchestra, Kansas Wesleyan orchestra, and the Salina Youth Symphony. She also works at Tucson’s Steakhouse. After graduation, she plans to graduate in three years from Kansas Wesleyan with a degree in criminal justice, and then attend graduate school. Congratulations, Reese!

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Aidan Sankey. Aidan is the son of Kristin Sankey and Amit Save, and Steve Sankey. At South High, he has participated in football, track, tutored in the writing center, and was inducted into National Honor Society. He enjoys attending school to hang out with his friends, and says the teachers are very personable. At South High, he is a member of National Honor Society, and is a library aide, which he enjoys because he gets to organize, clean, and keep track of important materials. Outside of schools, he enjoys volunteering in his neighborhood, and likse reading graphic novels, drawing, and making art from abstract concepts. At South High, she is a leader on the Cougar Bowling team that finished as State runner-up this season. She also loves her financial math class, because it adds a little spice to a normal math class. Outside of school, she works as a CNA, and enjoys having residents look forward to seeing her. She loves being involved in choir as a class, but also performing with New Dawn outside of school and getting to spend time with her fellow members. At South High, she is Orchestra Concert Master and Class President, a Writing Center Tutor, Link Crew member, National Honor Society member, and Boys Basketball manager. She enjoys the environment teachers create in the classroom and getting to know them on a more personal level. She has loved building relationships with many of her teachers throughout her high school career. Outside of school, JoLee is a member of the Bethany College Community Orchestra as principal 2nd violin, and works extensively doing activities and volunteer work at Trinity Lutheran Church. Streeter. Emily is the daughter of Kelly
and Michele Streeter. At South High,
Emily is in Theatre, including three years as a drama club officer, the Cougar
Band, as section leader and Feature Twirler, Link Crew, New Dawn, and
HOSA. She enjoys talking to and meeting
new people, and getting to make friends and participate in events she is passionate
about. Outside of school, Emily twirls
with Shannon’s Stars Twirling Club, being a member of the National, Senior, and
Senior Select teams. She also
participates with Theatre Salina, she is an STO for Kansas Thespians, and she
is an ambassador for Bloom Formals. She
also loves music, whether listening or performing, and her favorite things to
do with friends are to drive and go to Sonic.
She also has two dogs at home named Buster and Gracie. After graduation, Emily plans to twirl and
pursue something in the medical field. You can see Emily as Cinderella and all
of theatre’s hard work February 2 and 4.

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Andrew Kaiser. Andrew is the son of Allen and Lynn Kaiser. At South High, Andrew is a member of National Honor Society, HOSA, FCA, and has lettered in Cross Country, Basketball, and Track in his high school career.. He appreciates his South High teachers, who are kind and supportive of future goals, and have helped him with college essays and recommendation letters. Outside of school, he is a CYO member, a Prayer and Action participant, and has assisted with Red Cross Blood Drives, Junior Cougs Basketball Camps, and referees youth basketball. Andrew is also a PV2 in the Kansas Army National Guard and works as a CNA at Eaglecrest Assisted Living. Andrew will graduate with a 4.0 weighted GPA and 43 college credits, and he plans to attend the University of Kansas where he will major in Biology on the Pre-Med track and participate in ROTC. At South High, he president of National Honor Society, president of Math Relays, lead programmer for Robotics, section leader for the marching band, and a member of the concert band, jazz band, Scholar’ Bowl, and Varsity Tennis teams. He is also a tutor in the school’s Math Center. Will says he has just always liked learning. He is easily fascinated and engrossed in different subjects, and school lets him take advantage of this. Outside of school, he enjoys working on and driving classic cars, and has a cat named Stan. She loves to collect cheese spreaders with little figures on top, and she will take those in lieu of flowers after her theatre performances. He favorite class has been medical internship, where she has had vet, behavioral health, and paramedic rotations, which has helped her narrow down her postsecondary plans.
