JoLee Hurren

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior JoLee Hurren.  JoLee is the daughter of Jamy and Michelle Hurren.  At South High, she is Orchestra Concert Master and Class President, a Writing Center Tutor, Link Crew member, National Honor Society member, and Boys Basketball manager.  She enjoys the environment teachers create in the classroom and getting to know them on a more personal level.  She has loved building relationships with many of her teachers throughout her high school career.  Outside of school, JoLee is a member of the Bethany College Community Orchestra as principal 2nd violin, and works extensively doing activities and volunteer work at Trinity Lutheran Church.  After graduation, she plans on attending the University of Kansas to major in Chemistry along the Pre-Med track.  Congratulations, JoLee!

Emily Streeter

South High School’s Student of the Week is junior Emily Streeter.  Emily is the daughter of Kelly and Michele Streeter.  At South High, Emily is in Theatre, including three years as a drama club officer, the Cougar Band, as section leader and Feature Twirler, Link Crew, New Dawn, and HOSA.  She enjoys talking to and meeting new people, and getting to make friends and participate in events she is passionate about.  Outside of school, Emily twirls with Shannon’s Stars Twirling Club, being a member of the National, Senior, and Senior Select teams.  She also participates with Theatre Salina, she is an STO for Kansas Thespians, and she is an ambassador for Bloom Formals.  She also loves music, whether listening or performing, and her favorite things to do with friends are to drive and go to Sonic.  She also has two dogs at home named Buster and Gracie.  After graduation, Emily plans to twirl and pursue something in the medical field. You can see Emily as Cinderella and all of theatre’s hard work February 2 and 4.  Congratulations, Emily!

Andrew Kaiser

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Andrew Kaiser.  Andrew is the son of Allen and Lynn Kaiser.  At South High, Andrew is a member of National Honor Society, HOSA, FCA, and has lettered in Cross Country, Basketball, and Track in his high school career..  He appreciates his South High teachers, who are kind and supportive of future goals, and have helped him with college essays and recommendation letters.  Outside of school, he is a CYO member, a Prayer and Action participant, and has assisted with Red Cross Blood Drives, Junior Cougs Basketball Camps, and referees youth basketball.  Andrew is also a PV2 in the Kansas Army National Guard and works as a CNA at Eaglecrest Assisted Living.  Andrew will graduate with a 4.0 weighted GPA and 43 college credits, and he plans to attend the University of Kansas where he will major in Biology on the Pre-Med track and participate in ROTC.  His goals are to become a Colonel in the Kansas Army National Guard and work as an ER Doctor.  Rock Chalk!  Congratulations, Andrew!

Elena Herbel

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Elena Herbel.  Elena is the daughter of Jon and Ashlee Herbel.  At South High, she is a member of the Cougar basketball and volleyball teams, FCA, and National Honor Society.  Her favorite subjects are math and science.  Outside of school, she enjoys being a part of the worship team at her church, and attending youth group.  She also enjoys playing the guitar and watching her favorite movies and TV shows.  After graduation, Elena plans to attend Kansas State University to study Dietetics.  Congratulations, Elena!

William Fulkerson

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior William Fulkerson.  Will is the son of Kim and John Fulkerson.  At South High, he president of National Honor Society, president of Math Relays, lead programmer for Robotics, section leader for the marching band, and a member of the concert band, jazz band, Scholar’ Bowl, and Varsity Tennis teams.  He is also a tutor in the school’s Math Center.  Will says he has just always liked learning.  He is easily fascinated and engrossed in different subjects, and school lets him take advantage of this. Outside of school, he enjoys working on and driving classic cars, and has a cat named Stan.  After graduation, Will plans to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at either Kansas State University or Colorado School of Mines.  Congratulations, Will!

Malina Szyndlar

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Malina Szyndlar.  Malina is the daughter of Saralyn Szyndlar.  At South High, she is the president of drama club, has been on the leadership team for four years, and is a Cougar twirler.  She loves AP Chemistry with Miss Mann, and enjoys all of the school activities South High offers.  Outside of school, Malina twirls with Shannon’s Star on the National, Senior, and Worlds Team USA.  She also enjoys taking care of plants, sewing, her saltwater aquarium, and spending time with her dogs, Sammy and Oliver.  After graduation, Malina plans to attend Kansas State University to major in Chemistry.  Congratulations, Malina!

Lauren Harris

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Lauren Harris. Lauren is the daughter of Jennifer and Elliott Harris.  At South High, she is a leader on the Cougar Volleyball and Basketball teams, is a Writing Center Intern, and is a member of National Honor Society.  She enjoys her teachers because they really take the time to get to know students and want to see them succeed.  After graduation, Lauren plans to attend Kansas State University to study Pre-Med.  Congratulations, Lauren!

Francisco Guardado

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Francisco Guardado.  Francisco is the son of Sanjuana Torres and Francisco Guardado Sr.  At South High, he is Debate & Forensics Captain, Newspaper Editor, and National Honor Society member.  He loves the people of South High, and really enjoys all of the clubs and activities that are offered.  Outside of school, he is director assistant at Sacred Heart Cathedral.  After graduation, Francisco plans to attend the University of Kansas on the Pre-Law track, en route to becoming a lawyer.  Congratulations, Francisco!

Mia Ibarra

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Mia Ibarra. Mia is the daughter of Eli Gutierrez.  At South High, Mia is a Link Leader, a member of HOSA and National Honor Society, and is a manager for the Cougar Football, Boys’ Basketball, and Baseball teams.  Her favorite teachers are Mr. Smith, Mr. Ballenger, Miss Mahoney, and Mr. Rassette because of their sense of humor in class and their ability to make school truly enjoyable.  Outside of school, Mia is active with her church youth group.  After graduation, she plans to attend Kansas State University and eventually would like become a dentist.  Congratulations, Mia!

Evan Dickson

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Evan Dickson.  Evan is the son Vanessa and Andy Dickson.  At South High, he is a two-year Drama Club officer, and a member of New Dawn and National Honor Society. He most enjoys his science classes, drama club, and the support of all of the teachers.  Outside of school, he volunteers with drama club and New Dawn, and enjoys building models and participating in theatre.  After graduation, Evan plans to major in Biochemistry at a yet undecided college.  Congratulations, Evan!

Aubrey Powell

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Aubrey Powell.  Aubrey is the daughter of Sarah Powell and Josh Lundblade.  At South, she is a member of National Honor Society, Link Crew, New Dawn, and class representative and social media manager for Drama Club.  She says the whole South High Social Studies wing brightens her day, and wants to give a  special shout out to Mrs. Melissa Gates.  Outside of school, Aubrey volunteers a lot through Theatre, National Honor Society, and Link Crew, and she works as a CNA.  She loves to collect cheese spreaders with little figures on top, and she will take those in lieu of flowers after her theatre performances.  After graduation, she will be attending Butler Community College for two years, before transferring to Emporia State in route to becoming a middle school math teacher.  Congratulations, Aubrey!

Roman Dalme

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Roman Dalme.  Roman is the son of Rosalie Bonilla and Craig Dalme.  At South High, he is a member of the Cougar Football Team and National Honor Society.  He enjoys being a part of the football team because of their hard work in the face of adversity and the team is truly a family.  Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with friends, playing video games, and working with electronics.  After graduation, Roman plans to attend Kansas State University in pursuit of becoming an electrical engineer.  Congratulations, Roman!

Kaitlyn Kieborz

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Kaitlyn Kieborz.  Kaitlyn is the daughter of Marci Harris and Dan Kieborz.  At South High, she is a member of the dance team, the Peppers.  Her favorite class is history with Mr. Harris, and she loves Friday night football games.  Outside of school, Kaitlyn dances with Revolution School of Dance, works at Eaglecrest Retirement Community, and loves spending time with her friends and family.  After graduation, she plans to attend the University of Kansas to study Psychology.  Congratulations, Kaitlyn!

Danee Phillips

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Danee Phillips.  Danee is the daughter of Lisa Phillips and Josh Phillips.  She has a brother, Gavin, and a twin sister, Payton.  At South High, Danee is a four-year member of the Cougar Golf Team, qualifying for state three times, a four-year member of HOSA, and a member of National Honor Society.  He favorite class has been medical internship, where she has had vet, behavioral health, and paramedic rotations, which has helped her narrow down her postsecondary plans.  Outside of school, Danee is a pharmacy tech at Key Rexall.  After graduation, she plans to attend either UMKC or Kansas State.  Congratulations, Danee!

Andrew Schrage

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Andrew Schrage.  Andrew is the son of Mike and Mary Schrage.  At South High, Andrew is a member of the Kilt Krew, the Cougar Soccer Team, and has been a member of the State Cougar Tennis Team.  He enjoys his math and science classes, and has had amazing teachers, such as Mrs. Cairns, Mr. Ballenger, and Mr. Carlson.  After graduation, Andrew plans to attend Kansas State University.  Congratulations, Andrew!

Olivia Mancino-Hinde

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Olivia Mancino-Hinde. Olivia is the daughter of Rachel Hinde and Randy Mancino.  Olivia is a leader for Cougar Cross Country and Track & Field.  She enjoys coming to school every day to spend time with her friends and to participate in athletics.  Outside of school, she participates with Salina Burn, the Ark Church, and Military Affairs Council.  After graduation, Olivia plans to attend the University of Kansas.  Congratulations, Olivia!

Tess Daily

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Tess Daily.  Tess is the daughter of Christina and Brad Daily.  At South High, Tess is a four-year member of the Cougar Tennis Team, and is a member of Link Crew and National Honor Society.  She enjoys seeing her friends every day at school.  Outside of school, she volunteers at her church nursery.  Tess is unsure of her college plans after graduation, but after working at Salina Dental Arts, she is considering dentistry as a future career.  Congratulations, Tess!

 Rylee Davis

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Rylee Davis. Rylee is the daughter of April and Nick Davis.  Rylee is currently the lone senior on the Cougar Cheerleading Squad. She is self-taught in American Sign Language, and has done cheer since she was four years old.  She enjoys coming to school to catch up with her friends, and her favorite class is Intro to Public Services.  After graduation, Rylee plans to attend Sam Houston State University to study criminal justice in pursuit of becoming a criminal profiler.  Congratulations, Rylee!

Peyton Augustine

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Peyton Augustine.  Peyton is the son of Brandy and Chris Augustine.  At South High, Peyton is member of the Cougar Football and Wrestling teams, and National Honor Society.  He enjoys seeing his friends every day at school.  After graduation, Peyton plans to attend Kansas State University.  Congratulations, Peyton!

Madison Yost

South High School’s Student of the Week is senior Madison Yost.  Madison is the daughter of Tami and Brian Yost.  At South High, Madison is a four-year member of the Cougar Volleyball and Softball teams, FCA, HOSA, and National Honor Society.  She enjoys coming to school to interact with her teachers and friends every day.  Outside of school, she is active within her church, Relay for Life, and enjoys spending time with family and friends. After graduation, Madison plans to attend Kansas State University to major in Integrative Physiology, with the goal of becoming an OBGYN.  Congratulations, Madison!
